Modern Trends in Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) Imaging

November 6, 2024 , 13:00 14:00

Speaker: Dr. Mikołaj Baranowski

Affiliation: Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, AMU Poznan, Poland

Abstract: This lecture on “Modern Trends in EPR Imaging” provides an exploration of the development, technical advancements, and future potential of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) imaging, with a specific emphasis on in vivo applications. The presentation will cover the evolution of EPR imaging technology and its current application in preclinical and clinical studies. Key technical challenges, such as the limitations in sensitivity, spatial and spectral imaging time, and resolution issues, will be discussed alongside innovative solutions, including multi-harmonic techniques that enhance detection and improve the final image quality. The progress that was achieved recently allows for a highly sensitive mapping of paramagnetic species in biological tissues, pharmacokinetics, precise measurements of partial oxygen pressure and real-time oxygenation maps within the tumor microenvironment. Through an exploration of these developments, the presentation highlights the unique contributions of EPR imaging to medical research and its expanding potential in clinical diagnostics.
