Abstract: The acoustics of thirty sacred interiors built in Poland, Austria, and Australia were investigated, followed by studies of the scale of the building and the construction and finishing materials. Their acoustic properties were determined by measuring acoustic parameters considered in the literature to be the crucial to the assessment of sacred interior properties. The main objective of this presentation is to indicate the importance of the function of sound in a church building. The research topic that was undertaken turned out to be important as architectural acoustics is still not sufficiently taken into consideration in contemporary churches.
