Taking advantage of the lacks in absorption: bleach bands in molecules and solids for photovoltaics

Bleach bands appear in differential absorption measurements when the stationary absorption of the system is weaken by some perturbation (e.g. pump pulse in pump-probe experiments). In this presentation I would like to share our over 10 years experience how the bleach can be useful in the studies of different systems for photovoltaics, including molecular systems in dye sensitized solar cells and solids semiconductors in perovskite solar cells. I wish to invite for my presentation the colleagues from physics, chemistry and materials science., both experimentalist and theoreticians. I hope the presentation will be quite interactive because:

  • I will provide the examples of our successful use of the bleach band dynamics to study charge transfers in photovoltaic systems;
  • I will show that the bleach bands found in solids can be much unexpected with respect to those commonly observed in molecules;
  • I will demonstrate that our techniques can be very useful for many groups working on sunlight energy conversion systems
  • I will propose our interpretation of the bleaches in solids based on my rather poor background in solid state physics and I hope our ideas will be verified by the experts in the audience;
  • I will present our certain lacks in the ability to properly model the bleach band dynamics in solids, with the hope for possible future collaborations with the theoreticians in this field
