New observational techniques and their increased accuracy enforce the development of new methods to determine the size and shape of asteroids. Knowledge of the size and mass of small bodies is essential for understanding the origin and evolution of the Solar System. We give a brief introduction to this research field and present modern methods for the study of small bodies of the Solar System.
