Why neutrons?

April 21 , 13:00 14:00

Speaker: Prof. Wojciech Nawrocik
Affiliation: Faculty of Physics, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poznań, Poland
Link to MSTeams Meeting

The subject of the talk is the most important information concerning the construction of a neutron and its properties used in various types of condensed-phase neutron scattering experiments. In particular, the presentation will focus on these types of neutron scattering that provide information about the structure and molecular dynamics of the materials under study, as well as on  selected neutron devices with which this information is obtained. Briefly, the listeners will become familiar with the operating principle of neutron sources: the ILL stationary reactor (Grenoble), the JNIR  pulse reactor (Dubna), and the modern spallation source ESS (Lund, under construction). Some examples of the neutron scattering research results will be given.

Seminar language: English
Chairman: Prof. Jacek Gapiński
